From an early age, Faridah Ddamulira has had a deep passion for people meeting them, learning their stories, building friendships, and offering help wherever she can. After graduating with a degree in sociology, she pursued a career in Social work & community development, working with various Humanitarian organisations, driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

It was through this work that Faridah began travelling extensively, first within Uganda and later across the wider East African region. These field trips quickly became her favourite part of the job. Having grown up primarily in the city, she found far greater fulfilment engaging with local communities in remote areas than sitting behind a desk. No matter how off the beaten track the destination, there was always striking scenery or a hidden point of interest along the way.

Before long, travel had become more than just part of her work - it had become a second passion, filling her weekends and holidays with hikes, mountain climbs, and visits to national parks.

As her experience grew, Faridah became the go-to source of travel advice among friends and acquaintances, often finding herself organising their trips as well. Recognising where her true strengths lay, she formally established SunAfrica Expeditions in 2009, transforming a part-time passion into a full-time vocation.

Since then, she has devoted herself to growing the company - scouting new destinations, travelling the world developing authentic experiences, building strong relationships with local communities, and cultivating an international network of agents, guides, and experts to showcase the very best of Africa to travellers from around the world.

Alongside this growth, Faridah has remained deeply committed to the humanitarian values that shaped her early career. She ensures that SunAfrica Expeditions’ journeys deliver positive benefits to local communities, while also supporting several charities. Over the years, she has helped put more than 100 orphans through school - an achievement made especially meaningful by seeing one of them graduate from medical school and now practise as a doctor at one of Kampala’s leading hospitals.

Whenever she can, Faridah still packs her bags to explore a new corner of the world. Her ideal trip begins with a little hiking, weaves in culture, history, or wildlife along the way, and ends with a few days of rest and relaxation on the beach - preferably with a cocktail in hand. Bungee jumping, however, is firmly a thing of the past.
