Tour duration: 4 Days
Destinations visited: Bwindi National Park.
For travellers on a tight schedule, this 4-day fly-in journey takes you into the depths of Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see some of the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas. The experience begins at Entebbe where you will be whisked away on a domestic flight into the remote mountainous regions of southern Uganda. Here, at Bwindi National Park, you will enter one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems in Africa on an expedition to find a close-knit gorilla family. Bwindi is home to roughly 350 mountain gorillas, which is half the world’s remaining population and your chance of coming into contact with a group is approximately 95 percent.
This short overland thrilling tour is all about a memorable once in a life-time gorilla trekking expedition. A must do for all adventurous discerning tourists! In addition to the life-changing hour you spend with a gorilla family, you will also be able to go birding and hiking, and learn more about forest life from the Batwa people who have lived here for centuries.
Day to Day Itinerary:
– Day 1: Arrival Uganda
– Day 2: Flight to Bwindi
– Day 3: Gorilla trekking
– Day 4: Return to Entebbe for Departure
4 Days Fly in Mountain Gorilla Safari
After touching down at Entebbe International Airport, you will stay in Entebbe town then later take a scenic flight on a light aircraft to Kisoro, just outside Bwindi National Park. A warm welcome awaits your arrival at the airstrip and you will be transferred by road to Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge. This is your first opportunity to observe Uganda’s verdant landscape from ground level and your guide will begin to introduce you to the area’s colorful plant, animal and birdlife, as well as the Ugandan culture and way of life. After settling in at the lodge, take time to relax, appreciate the magnificent views, and prepare for a full day of trekking tomorrow.
Day 2: Life in Bwindi
Invigorated, humbled and inspired by your once-in-a-lifetime encounter with the mountain gorillas, you will spend part of today exploring the staggeringly diverse landscape that is a sanctuary to colobus monkeys, birds of paradise, butterflies, colourful bugs and exquisite flowering plants. Embark on a guided walk into the forest, take a scenic cycle around the lodge, or visit with local people at a nearby village.
The Batwa Trail is unique in a way that it show-cases authentic culture of the pygmies that depended on the natural forest habitat as a home for centuries. While exploring the trail, you experience the naturally endowed forest through a rare view point of the local people. The experience comes along with different unique demonstrations on how the pygmies used to extract local herbs that were used for healing different diseases, traditional ways of fetching water using locally made bamboo mugs and construction of grass huts.
The highly rewarding cultural tour ends with staged, authentic cultural performance organized by the Batwa community at the gate of the Garama cave which was highly regarded as ceremonial place for the cultural leaders of the Batwa community. Transfer to your lodge in preparation for Gorilla trekking the following day.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking- Bwindi Impenetrable Forest!!!
Today is the day that you have been waiting for and it begins early in the morning with a hearty breakfast while mist still lingers above the rolling landscape. Trekking through dense vegetation in humid conditions is by no means an easy feat but your reward is well worth the effort. Whether they are foraging, napping, playing or grooming, your privileged time observing these gentle creatures is one you will never forget. It can take anything from an hour to an entire day to locate a family group and you will spend a maximum of one hour observing them from a safe distance, under the watchful presence of your experienced guide. Coming face-to-face with a Mountain Gorilla is a truly humbling and emotional experience. Once you are back at the lodge treat your weary bones to a hot shower and a well-deserved massage at the spa. For most people this is the absolute highlight of their tour in Uganda.
Day 4: Farewell to the forest
As you return to Kisoro airstrip and fly once again over the abundant Ugandan landscape, take some time to reflect on your short but invaluable time spent in this precious East African forest observing nature’s incredible wonders and encountering the people who work hard to protect them. Your journey ends at its starting point, Entebbe International Airport where you can return home or easily continue on an East African big game safari or even an Indian Ocean island holiday.
This marks the end of what we hope will be an adventurous trip- Thank you very much!!
