7 Days Walking & Cultural Safari
Day 1: Arrival in Kampala
After touching down at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to Kampala. Use the night to tuck into a delicious dinner and shake off the jet-lag in preparation for your journey tomorrow.
Day 2: Cultural Excursion
After breakfast, embark on a heritage trail commonly referred to as the Kabaka’s trail; taking you through the culture of the Buganda kingdom – the oldest, biggest and most highly stratified kingdom of Uganda. You will visit up to three sites showcasing the Buganda heritage and Baganda social life through traditional dances, artifacts, meals, guided walks, medicinal gardens and storytelling. You have an option of taking a Buganda traditional lunch at one of the heritage trail sites.
Days 3 – 5: Walking Safari awaits!
This 6-night Ugandan walking & cultural safari incorporates excellent hosting and guiding in one of the most spectacular wilderness areas the country has to offer: the lake Mburo National Park. Offering a truly exceptional game-viewing experience, this package is aimed at the bona fide safari-enthusiast who will relish moving through acacia woodland on foot or by horseback.
Lake Mburo national park is one of Uganda’s smallest parks, but certainly not to be underestimated. There is no better way to savor this beautiful natural reserve and experience its serene atmosphere and wildlife than while on a walking or horseback safari. The wildlife and bird species is prolific.
Our experienced guides are full of fascinating stories about the ever-changing landscape, its trees and plants, and have an incredible ability to spot even the best-camouflaged wildlife. Our horses also have finely-tuned senses – keep an eye on their ears to see where animals are hiding. Once comfortable, our horses calmly drop their heads to graze, sending a signal to other animals in the area to relax and go about their normal daily routines.
In order to ensure the safest and most enjoyable walking or horseback adventure for everyone, participants/riders must be riding fit and confident at all paces. Days in the saddle can be long, and daytime temperatures can vary, so it is worth the effort to arrive prepared.
Lake Mburo N.P. is one of two parks in Uganda where it is permitted to go for a walking Safari with an experienced ranger. This opportunity should not be missed. From footprints and animal droppings the ranger will be able to tell you which animal has left it and how long ago. It is exciting to approach wildlife at such close range. Note: Other activities include: 4×4 game viewing, Boat Safari on Lake Mburo and mountain bike safari – $15 pp for 2 hours.
Days 5 – 7: The land of long horned cattle
After your adventurous safari by foot or horseback, proceed to Nshenyi village for a cultural immersion. On arrival at Nshenyi farm, you will be warmly welcomed with a traditional drink from then onwards, Listen to the silence of the hills, smell the freshness of the countryside, watch the undiscovered, taste the culture and Feel Africa! At Nshenyi village, your senses will come alive…
A day at Nshenyi Village starts with the rising sunlight, while the mist lingers mysteriously over the rolling hills. A dawn chorus of birds forms a pleasant wake up call. You will be served a traditional, organic breakfast with boiled eggs, fresh fruits, complemented by local ground coffee, tea and milk.
A wide range of activities awaits you. Why not join the pastors for grazing the long horned cows, explore the local villages or climb the surrounding hills? The afternoons are ideal for taking a hike through the wide-open savannah fields. Or marvel at the shores of the Kagera River, where the water plunges down into several waterfalls.
After a full day of activities you may want to relax in the comfortable hammock and watch the wonders of the African sunset, the moonrise and the stars fall. A campfire in the evening and the air filled with traditional sounds will be the final touch of an unforgettable day at Nshenyi…
Your journey ends at its starting point, Entebbe International Airport where you can return home or easily continue on an East African big game safari or even an Indian Ocean island holiday.
This marks the end of what we hope will be an adventurous trip- Thank you very much!!
