13 DAYS ROMANTIC KENYA’S; SAMBURU, MARA & COAST BEACHES
Days 1 – 2: Welcome to Nairobi
After touching down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you are driven to Hemingways Nairobi, a gracious lodge in the upscale neighbourhood in Karen with views of the famous Ngong Hills. If your schedule permits, consider a game drive in Nairobi National Park – the only place in the world where you can photograph wild giraffe with 21st century skyscrapers in the distance – pay a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum to see the life of the author of Out of Africa or drop in on the ellies at the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage.
Hemingways’ tranquil surrounds and cuisine created by a Michelin-starred chef will give you a peaceful night’s sleep in your Deluxe Room so that you can set off from Wilson Airport well rested in the morning.
Days 2 – 5: Samburu Game Reserve
Bid farewell to the hustle and bustle of Nairobi as you make your way to the heart of Kenya to enjoy some of the world’s best game viewing; Saruni Samburu will make you fall in love with Africa’s untouched landscapes.
Saruni Samburu has been carefully positioned to afford sweeping views of Mount Kenya from the mountains of the Kalama Conservancy. Like its cousin the Mara, Saruni Samburu is luxurious but ecologically conscious. Children will love the junior rangers programme and looking for the lost meaning behind historic rock art. Whether you love birding or photography, lazy picnics at the river or learning more about traditional Samburu culture, Saruni Samburu will give you something completely unexpected.
Days 5 – 8: Into the Mara
After getting your fill of game viewing in Samburu, you are whisked to Kenya’s crown jewel: the famed Masai Mara. Set on a private conservancy bordering the Mara, Saruni Mara is the perfect spot from which to be enthralled by the annual wildebeest migration. Triggered by the rains and thus not an exact science to predict, the wildebeest generally arrive in their thousands from about July in search of fresh grazing. Spend your days following their ancient routes and seeking out the Big 5 before returning to Saruni Mara – which is built in a hidden valley to strict environmental standards – for sundowners, massages and relaxing times in the library.
Days 8 – 13: Bliss out on the beach
Having experienced the excitement of the interior, it is now time to head to Saruni Ocean, a tranquil hideaway at Msambweni on the Kenyan coast. From your suite or villa, take in over six kilometres (or four miles) of pristine private beach and the warm, lapping waters of the Indian Ocean.
The Sarunity Spa is the only spa in East Africa to offer thalassotherapy, which uses fresh seawater to revive body and soul. In the evenings, head back to the beach for Swahili-fusion cuisine savored in the balmy tropical night air under a blanket of far-off stars.
On your last day, you will jet off back to where it all began at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. As you recall dawn game drives, sundowners in the bush, the call of fish eagles and the bliss of 13 days in Africa’s pride- Kenya, it is hard not to promise yourself that, one day, you will return.
This marks the end of what we hope will be an adventurous trip – Thank you very much!
